Review: Bee-Free Honee
Last month we received a couple of samples of Bee-Free Honee, a vegan honey made from apples, to try out and see what we thought. We were like kids on xmas morning, as we ripped open the package immediately. It looked like honey, same golden brown color. It kind of smelled like honey and it definitely had the same gooeyness and stickiness too. The next test was “but did it taste like honey?”
We tried it pure (on our fingers) and it actually did taste like honey, or at least pretty darn close, with a bit of an apple tang to it. We then tried it on crackers and in tea and our opinion did not waver. It was close enough for us. We felt it had much better texture and flavor than agave (not that agave tastes bad, it just lacks in that department).
Our final and ultimate test was “does it bake like honey?” Chris and I decided to try to it in a couple of recipes that typically call for honey, to see if it really held up once it was subjected to heat and baking. It passed with flying colors! See our recipes and individual reviews for each recipe:

Chris’ – Granola Bars with Honee
Along with the sample we also received a long letter outlining the history of how the product came to be and all the hard work Katie Sanchez has put into making this wonderful product come to life. We’re always excited when new vegan products show up at the store but we’re even more appreciative of the people who actually take action, make them a reality and available to us. So we wanted to formally thank Kate for all her hard work and putting herself on the line so we can have honee.
