Stone Row Pub & Eatery – Jim Thorpe, PA

Millet burger with Potato Salad and Hot Chocolate Apple Cider Cake Cool old stove Last month we went to Stone Row Pub & Eatery, in Jim Thorpe, PA, for lunch after talking to a few people that highly recommended it at a convention we were at. The staff was very welcoming and they were enthusiastic about their vegan items after we told them we were vegan. They were especially excited about telling us they have vegan hot chocolate made... Read More

V Street – Philadelphia, PA

V Street is the newly opened baby of chefs Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby, owners of the nationally acclaimed Vedge and former Horizon. V Street is a street food bar and its menu is inspired by the great ethnic and street foods of the world. It’s 100% vegan, of course. And it’s awesome! Four years ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Rich and Kate before they opened Vedge and, now, for their newly opened V Street. We ended up getting two great interviews, one about... Read More

Vegan Cheese Steaks at Horns – Bethlehem, PA

If you live in southeastern PA you know that Bethlehem is home to our beloved Vegan Treats, and it’s slowly gaining vegan momentum. One of the newer eateries in town to add vegan offering on their menu is Horns. Horns specializes in local and organic comfort foods and now has an ever growing list of vegan offerings, thanks to chef Amber. I had heard about Horns’ becoming vegan-friendly last year, but was a bit reluctant to enjoy a meal there because of the taxidermy... Read More

Vegan Gastronomy Weekend – Philly Burbs

It finally feels like spring here in southeastern PA and that makes us feel like dancing, singing and eating lots of good vegan food. So I decided it’s time for another Vegan Gastronomy tour of our beloved keystone state. A few weeks back I contributed to Vance Lemkuhl’s article “Vegan dining in the Philly ‘burbs” on Philly.com. Reading the final article gave me some ideas on where I wanted to go to explore some Philly burb eateries. Hang in there,... Read More

Review: Vgë Café – Bryn Mawr, PA

It’s been a year since Vgë Café opened and we finally got out there to try their delicious sandwiches. Mauro and I decided to check it out on one of our drive-abouts a couple of weeks back. And let me tell you, we really missed out on some good stuff this past year. We took a nice scenic and hilly route out there. It was a gorgeous day and perfect weather for driving around, it made me appreciate the lush, green scenery and how much I love living in this part of the country. We... Read More

Fracking Killing Livestock

According to the Center for Investigative Reporting livestock in near oil-and-gas drilling operations are becoming sick and dying. These animals are being poisoned through the air, water, and air. Livestock experiences neurological, reproductive and acute gastrointestinal problems after being exposed. This is an early warning that these poisons could find their way into milk and meat products. The Food Safety Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture isn’t looking... Read More

The Chip Factory – Pipersville, PA

This past weekend was the much awaited grand opening of Brad’s Raw Foods Chip Factory. An all raw/vegan business that’s growing and expanding into a health and wellness resource for the community is a really big deal for our little corner of suburban PA. I’ve been buying Brad’s awesome chips (the naked kale is my favorite) since he first started. I couldn’t be more excited that his business boomed so quickly and has opened an official hub only 10... Read More

Restaurant Review: The Honey Underground – Hereford, PA

In early Celtic literature, the carrot is referred to as “The Honey Underground”. Mauro and I finally had the opportunity to go to one of The Honey Underground’s brunches on Easter Sunday. I had heard so many good things about it but just never got around to going there. It’s about a one-hour drive for us, so we had to make it a date to actually go. We had, however, already tried Wendy Landiak’s (proprietor and chef) Balasia Café dishes at a catered... Read More
