The Dreaded Office Holiday Party
Every year I dread our holiday office parties, since I am the only vegan. Our CEO loves to eat steak, so we are forced to always pick a restaurant that serves it. Last year we went to a local hotel and my vegan entrée was pasta with tomatoes on top. There were no appetizers for me to eat because they all had meat or dairy in them. My dessert was excellent—it was five different sorbets. This year’s office holiday party was way better. It was held at the same hotel and I got... Read More

If you have to buy a gift or stocking stuffer for a vegan friend, boyfriend or husband here is a list of some of my favorites. Some of the links are the same from Vegan Holiday Gifts for Her. I hope this list will help. Or check out the From A to Vegan gifts. Food If he loves food and what vegan doesn’t, you can buy a gift card to his favorite local vegan friendly restaurant or you could make him a romantic dinner from a recipe from The Post Punk Kitchen or one of the cookbooks... Vegan Holiday Gifts for Her
I always stress out trying to find the perfect gift and stock stuffers for my wife, Chris, during the holidays. If you are also trying to find a gift for your vegan friend, girlfriend or wife I hope this list will help. Or check out the From A to Vegan gifts. Candy My wife has a sweet tooth, so I know chocolate is always a good purchase. We just ordered Rescue Chocolate Peanut Butter Pit Bull and it was delicious. We also love Sweet & Sara Peanut Butter Smores. Allison’s... Read More
Allergen-free Holiday Tradition
Gluten-free, allergen-free, vegan cookies Last week Chris shared her vegan holiday tradition, so I wanted to share mine too. When Mauro and I bought our house, I thought it would be nice to give our closest neighbors some yummy baked goods for the holidays. Throughout the years we’ve exchanged everything from pies, cakes and bread to chocolate and cookies. And so it became a tradition. In all these years neighbors have moved, some bonds have become weaker and others stronger,... Read More
My vegan holiday tradition
Holidays usually come with family traditions. One of my family traditions is baking cookies. I can remember being at my grandmother’s house up in the Poconos and waiting impatiently for a taste of her homemade sugar cookies, rolled out to perfection and molded into shapes with her old, metal cutters. Those were my absolute favorite cookies for many, many years until I started baking on my own. My mom isn’t a baker, so we never had home-baked cookies at our house unless Grandma... Read More
How do you survive the holidays?
It is that time of year when there are plenty of parties and dinners to attend. At my company holiday party, they made me a special vegan meal of pasta and red sauce and it was really disappointing. There were no appetizers that I could eat and the only thing available at the salad bar was romaine lettuce with some oil and vinegar. They made up for it by offering five different flavors of sorbet. The human resources manager is lactose intolerant, so they bought her a cake from... Read More
Giving thanks for helping animals
Many of you may have heard of Daniel, the beagle who survived a gas chamber in Alabama. I’ve been so moved by his story and encouraged at the response to his survival. In October 2011, five year-old Daniel was one of 18 dogs that were to be euthanized at a shelter in Florence, Alabama. It’s estimated that 3-4 million shelter animals are euthanized yearly in the United States. Only 19 states have a ban on the use of carbon monoxide for animal euthanasia. Somehow, in this case,... ThanksLiving event, Whole Foods Market Devon
On Saturday, October 15th, our Bucks County Vegan Supper Club partnered with Char Nolan and Whole Foods Market Devon for our ThanksLiving event. When we met Char back in August, we had spoken to her about plans we had for our Supper Club. We had wanted to plan a holiday event and wanted to call it ThanksLiving (after the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary event) since it would be animal and cruelty-free. Char had asked about helping out with it, and told us the Market would be... Read More
Giving thanks for the turkeys
I’ve written before about my vegetarian experience, when I first “got it.” I had never liked veal or lamb or pork growing up, and I had unsuccessfully attempted to eliminate meat years earlier. I, like many millions of people, had associated family meals and holidays with various foods. My favorite holiday has always been Thanksgiving—a time I consider to be a focus on those who mean the most to us, our friends and families. I get warm fuzzies thinking about gathering... Read More
