About This Site

Founded in 2011, From A to Vegan strives to share perspectives about veganism in the 21st century. From food to fashion, leisure to sustainability, our goal is to provide noteworthy and useful information to anyone thinking about or currently leading a life free of animal products. We think it’s important to present different points of view and challenge common misperceptions about people and practices that are considered vegan. We hope to open minds to the possibility of a sustainable way of life through alternative choice. In the process, we hope to learn things about ourselves as well.

Our Biographies

LYDIA GROSSOV: Lydia has been a passionate cook since she was 13 years old, a vegetarian/now vegan for a little over 20 years, a graphic designer for over 16, and, if you thought there wasn’t room for any more passion think again, a happily married woman for over 16 as well. She is also the principal of Expresso Design, a co-founder of the Doylestown Food Club and the Doylestown Food Co-op, a supporting member of the Women’s Business Forum, an active member of the Bucks County Vegan Supper Club where she and her husband met James and Chris, and co-founder of fromatovegan.com.

CHRIS LUCAS: Chris has been in the bookselling and publishing industries for nearly 20 years. She started looking for alternative ways to ease her allergic symptoms when her asthma flared up several years ago. A family trip to Farm Sanctuaryin 2008 helped her change her perspective on animals and food, opening her up to a vegan lifestyle. In December 2009, Chris and her husband Jim began Bucks County Vegan Supper Club out of their home in Pennsylvania. In the winter of 2011, along with Jim, Lydia, and Mauro, Chris became a co-founder of fromatovegan.com as a way to help inspire and motivate other people interested in adopting a plant-based lifestyle. In addition to enjoying food, Arrested Development, traveling, and books,  Chris is interested in decreasing her ecological footprint on the planet. In the spirit of Dr. Seuss’ Lorax, she “speaks for the trees, for the trees have no tongues”.

JAMES LUCAS: James has been a graphic designer for over 18 years and owns Wave Hound Surf Shop. James started Doylestown Movie Fans, who meet once a month to see movies at the County Theater in Doylestown, PA. He and his wife Chris started Bucks County Vegan Supper Club in 2009, whose members meet once a month to have a vegan potluck dinner. They are currently working through the Veganomicon cookbook, which inspires experienced and recent vegans to try new recipes. James is proud to support Farm Sanctuary and The Surfrider Foundation.

MAURO REIS: Mauro has been many things: a software developer, a comic book and boardgame store owner, a software developer again, and now he is a farrier by day and web developer by night. A farrier’s work is very physical and Mauro was told that he wouldn’t be able to do it, being a vegetarian… something about “needing protein for energy”. That was about 7 years ago, so there. He has been a vegetarian since 1993 and a vegan since 2010. He blames Lydia for it.
